Mauro Rosales was a difference maker last season. Perhaps the biggest difference maker the Sounders had.
When he was on the pitch good things happened, and when he was not on the pitch the absence was felt.
Rosales had 13 assists, setting a new Sounders record, 5 goals and won the award for the MLS newcomer of the year. By the end of the season his named was being thrown around for MLS MVP, that is how much impact he had for the Sounders. Seattle went 10-1-2 when Rosales scored or assisted.
The former Argentine international was named to the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week a team-high seven times, and he was named MLS Player of the Week on week 18 after contributing a goal and assist in a 4-3 win over the defending MLS Cup champion Colorado Rapids.
Late injuries kept Rosales out of the playoffs and well, you know what happened then.
Signing Mauro to a multi year contract is a huge step for Sounders. This will help establish one of, if not the best midfield in Major League Soccer.
The terms of the new contract were not released, but I’m sure he will make more than his measly $42,000 last year.
